Gnome
When restoring ceramics or pottery, we use a two-part epoxy adhesive, as well as other fillers, paints and glazes to create a seamless fix. This handsome Gnome was knocked off a shelf and the accident caused his nose detached. Multiple steps are taken to ensure a flawless repair.
The first step to restoring ceramics and pottery is a deep surface clean as well as on the cracks. In this case, the gnome’s body and nose were cleaned. The gnome’s nose was then reattached with a conservation grade adhesive made out of resin. After filling the seam, we finely sanded and smoothed out the filling of the crack. Lastly, the repair was in-painted to camouflage any damage and sealed with a protective, UV-stable varnish that also prevents yellowing from age.
