Thorough cleaning and deodorization are vital steps needed that remove corrosive agents found in smoke and soot that degrade and weaken art of all mediums. This unique camel bladder lamp, damaged in a house fire, exemplifies how different the color saturation can look prior to sustaining fire and acidic smoke damage.
Fire damage caused extreme dents and cracking of paint to this irreplaceable lamp acquired abroad. The heat from the fire exacerbated the dents and cracking of paint. Meanwhile, the soot and smoke stained the exterior of the lamp. We cleaned the interior and exterior of the lap with non-abrasive and non-reactive cleaners before restoration began.
The chipped paint was stabilized but not retouched. Lamps illuminate any and all flaws/repairs, making them stand out more than just a mere missing paint chip. To stabilize the restoration work, a clear filler was used. The clear filler mitigates any further paint loss without drawing more attention to the damaged area.
